Fate

Hijiri first comes on scene right after Jeanne saves Miyako's brother from a demon. As she untransforms Hijiri sees her turn back into Maron. Maron is upset, but figures that she will never see him again.

Conviently, the very next day a new teacher arrives on the scene, and what do we know? It's Hijiri! After many failed attemptes to talk to him at school, Maron and Fin have a little chat when Hijiri arrives on the scene, and he is able to see Fin! The two talk for a while and Maron is happy because he has a letter to her from her father.

Hijiri rescues Maron from the police while Chiaki was on strike, and introduces her to Zen, a boy with failing health who was possessed by a demon. Maron decides to wait to seal the demon until Zen becomes strong enough to live without the demon. But Sinbad seals it anyway, killing Zen.

Maron is devasted and becomes dependant on Hijiri, who reveals himself to be Noin, Jeanne D'arc's lover. He tells Maron about their story and how Jeanne D'arc never physically returned his love because she was such a servant of Kami. But because Kami betrayed Jeanne and allowed her to die, Noin allowed himself to become possesed by a demon so he could live to see her reincarnation, Maron.

Noin explains that he is the one who plotted out her and Chiaki's break of trust, and that he manipulated Zen. He then tries to rape Maron, because unless she is a virgin Kami can't use her, but Chiaki comes just in time. Noin escapes but continues to watch her.

When Fin attacks Maron, Noin saves her but they both end up time traveling together back to the past when the original Jeanne was still alive. Maron forgives Noin and the two decide to work together while in the past, and Noin finally accepts that the present Jeanne doesn't love him. Noin was set out to stop the demon from possessing him after Jeanne was burned and Maron was supposed to stop the execution by sealing the demon that had taken control of the townspeople.

But Maron can't transform because Fin had left and is no longer giving her powers, and Noin ended up being the demon that possessed himself. The past Jeanne talks to Maron as she was at the stake and gave her the powers to transform herself into an even more powerful Jeanne. With that Maron seals the demon and the townspeople return to normal, but Jeanne still died.

Noin returned to the present with Maron and still became Hijiri and taught at school; but basically gives up in chasing her and making her his lover, except for a few random comments made here and there.
